I just got an email from Symantec that said %26quot;Go Green with Norton and save.%26quot; Uh, what does anti-virus software have to do with the environment?

What%26#039;s especially annoying is that there is no clear standards for %26quot;green.%26quot; It might mean that it doesn%26#039;t harm the environment, but it could also mean that it doesn%26#039;t harm the environment as much as something else. It could also mean that the company manufacturing the %26quot;green%26quot; product uses recycled plastic garbage bags in its corporate office, thus saving the environment...Other Answers (4)

You have some very good answers here.
I agree that the Green movement seems to be a bit trendy at the moment and that there is not clear definition or standard as to what constitutes %26quot;green practices.%26quot;
Like %26quot;Made in America%26quot;, the Green concept will enjoys its heyday as a marketing ploy until the next big idea comes along to supplant it.
If I were you, I%26#039;d contact Symantec and ask them how they justifiy their message to you. I%26#039;d love to hear how they respond to you. Congratulations for keeping them on their toes. -
Not talking specifically about anyones product but if a %26#039;fad%26#039; is saving the environment as opposed to destroying it... I personally don%26#039;t care if they market themselves as %26#039;green%26#039;. I hope every company gets on this band wagon and rides it as long as possible.

As long as people respond to %26quot;green%26quot;, marketers will use it. Periodically, you see %26quot;Made in America%26quot; campaigns. Fads come and go, although %26quot;green%26quot; may be a particularly long-lived fad.
