There is no such thing as a banner ad for free. No one will advertise your blog for free, thats why they have advertisements. To make money.That is unless the theme of your blog is for a good cause, for example cancer research, end genocide in darfur, save the whales, free tibet, ect. In that circumstance you may be able to secure either a donation of free ad space.
If all you are looking to do is create a simple picture, you can use Microsoft Paint, which simpy comes with windows. Look under accessories, and then click paint. There are also tons of free programs floating around on the internet for creating art.
1. Once you have your picture established, upload it somewhere such as a geocities account (free web space provided by yahoo).
2. determine what the address is. so lets say your image is at www.geocities.com/yourusername/image.jpg...
3. When you want to post your image on a message board somewhere put it in as the following:
%26lt;a href=%26quot;www.your blog%26#039;s address here.com%26quot;%26gt;
%26lt;img src=%26quot;www.geocities.com/
yourusername/image.jpg%26quot;%26gt;
%26lt;/h%26gt;
Some message boards already have ways to do this without having to use HTML. It%26#039;s called a signature. Check that out before you bother with html. 100% 3 Votes
