When I started school I was inundated with credit cards. Opening one credit card and using it sparingly will help. Just make sure you can pay on it. It would be useful for you at least to get a part time job if you are a full time student so you can pay any debt you may incure.

Take out a credit card with very low interest and purchase a few small items on it. Pay it off in full every month and your credit will grow pretty quickly.

Take out a small loan from a bank to purchase something and quickly pay off the loan and on time.
