Should I contact the original creditor (XYZ Hospital) or the collection agency listed on my credit report? I am trying to clear up my credit report and I%26#039;m confused. I have my credit report (equifax) and it lists my %26quot;collections%26quot;. I have collection agencies with the balances - but it also lists the original creditor - all hospitals - all medical bills. Do I contact the original creditor to get that removed from my credit report or do I contact the collection agency? I am aware I have to make arrangements to pay off the debt but want to try and get my credit fixed. It%26#039;s a real problem and I%26#039;m tired of running. Thanks for any help you may have.

    • You can try to call the hospital. If they have sold the debt to a collection agency, they%26#039;ll tell you and you will have to pay the agency. If the agency is only hired, then you can pay the hospital. Even if you pay the hospital will be listed because it%26#039;s part of your history that you defaulted. Still, it%26#039;s better to have an old delinquency than an open collection.
