It depends on your provider. You can usually set up direct pay when you make a payment online.I have t-mobile and I can go a month without paying it but once the next bill is due I have to pay the past due amount or my cell will get disconnected.

these are questions you would have to ask your provider, they all have different policies. I have Verizon and I know a have a few days to pay it after the date and then they will text you before shutting anything off. I think the late fee is only $5, but I have never been more than a few days late so I dont know for sure. Also, I can make the payment right from my cell phone in a just a couple minutes, it quick, easy and they keep your payment method on record so you dont have to even have your credit card or check with you to make the payment.
